Our Story

This 6th generation family farm was established in 1918.  The Clinkenbeard Family, upon raising nine  children, maintained the farm as a tobacco and cattle operation. You  will see various memorabilia from this patriotic family, the "band of  five brothers" (all veterans) who grew up on this farm.  The original  farmhouse, renovated in 2012, can be booked today for private parties  and was renamed The Farmstead.

After decades of growing tobacco,  Atwood Hill Winery is turning a new leaf.  With the planting of vines in 2005-06, the vines are now matured with bountiful grapes. The three acre vineyard offers french hybrid varieties: Vidal Blanc, Cayuga white and a robust Chambourcin red grape. A small quantity of Cynthiana  Norton, an American variety was planted in 2011.

The pruning  season starts in the early spring.  With detailed vineyard management  throughout the summers months, we welcome you to see for yourself this  labor of love and passion we strive for in our quality wines.  Fruits, depending on the variety, are harvested in early fall with sugars at their highest peak.

At Atwood, the grapes are hand picked.  The de-stemming, crushing and pressing are all done on site.  Depending on the type of wine, it might be stored nine months to two years in our stainless steel tanks before bottling.  Oak barrels are also used to enhance the oak taste.
~
Admire the natural beauty, this rural Kentucky winery has to offer.  One of the first wineries established in Kenton County.  Atwood Hill Winery showcases 14 different varieties of  wines, including prominent estate wines.  Enjoy this unique opportunity as you sample various wines offered in our cozy tasting room.  Whether it is an estate wine or the bourbon barrel red, you will find a nice mix  from dry to sweet to enliven your taste buds.
~
It might be the glass of wine, relaxing under the pergola, or the evening sunset; our goal is that you enjoy all that Atwood has to offer.
